Video to look like film software

whenever people ask this on other boards i tell them not to waste thier time on software. The film look is only partly the fact its shot on film, its also the fact theres hundreds of trained professionals doing thier upmost to make it look good. Its this general professionalism which will make the biggest difference to your movie.

In other words, learn to get stuff lit as well as possible for starters. Lighting DV correctly and shooting 16:9 goes a long way to giving that film impression.

While im not saying software is useless, i wouldnt bother with it until you have got your movie looking as best as it can through being professionaly done.

To convert video running at 25fps to 24fps for a filmic look, look out for software called Magic Bullet. We've never used it but colleagues of ours have, and STRONGLY recommend it. I THINK its an after effects plug in, but dont hold me to that, look it up. Jackass the movie used it for best look in cinema's when running at 24fps.
Problem with it is its really quite expensive and unless your using a G5, it could take HOURS to render. Of course, if you want to start on the way to look more filmic then make sure you shoot interlaced and de-interlace in your editing package. plus the lighting thing too. (use lower field for DV, usually)
